Melanie Johnson is the founder and friendly face behind the School of Mahj, launched in 2025 to share her passion for American mahjong with new players. She is a member of the Mahj Life Instructors Guild, a network of mahjong teachers committed to the highest standards of instruction using National Mah Jongg League rules.

Our introductory class is for anyone wanting to learn how to play mahjong. Designed to take you from total newbie to confident player in a single session, we will cover everything you need to know so you can start your own game with friends right away. Bring your curiosity and leave with a new favorite pastime!
We also offer in-home classes for groups of friends who want to learn how to play together as well as couples classes and classes geared to parents and children. Email Melanie for pricing details for these alternatives.
