Description

MAJOR LOVE is the moniker of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Colleen Brown - and a collaboration featuring Alberta rock darlings Scenic Route To Alaska. Together, they make soulful pop-rock music for their hoser friends.

Their 2018 debut on Cowboy Junkies’ imprint Latent Recordings (Warner) yielded two singles 'Tear It Down’ and ’So Good’ which were embraced at CBC Radio 2 and enjoyed some initial commercial radio crossover. The album debuted at #19 on the earshot National College Radio charts where it ranked for more than 13 weeks.

2024 sees Major Love returning with the cheeky sophomore full-length “Live, Laugh, Major Love” with distribution through Slow Weather (The Orchard). Recorded at the National Music Centre’s Studio Bell in Calgary, Alberta - with of slew of Randy Bachman’s borrowed guitars on hand - the new album showcases a live band in lockstep, with chemistry to spare. Produced by Marcus Paquin (The National, Arcade Fire, The Weather Station, Mariel Buckley) these songs thrive at the intersection between Brown’s resonant vocal expression and SRTA’s spirited swagger...music to move body and soul.

SCENIC ROUTE TO ALASKA

Born and raised in Edmonton, the trio of childhood best friends, Scenic Route to Alaska, has been a consistent force in Canada's music scene since 2011. With six albums already under their belt, the band (Trevor Mann, Shea Connor, and Murray Wood) is gearing up for their seventh release, Lasts Forever, set to drop on April 12th, 2024. The upcoming album promises a matured yet light-hearted sound, weaving catchy melodies with Trevor’s vocals as they navigate through themes of love, loss, and nostalgia.

Taking a new direction, the trio ventured into self-production for Lasts Forever after collaborating with notable producers like Howard Redekopp, Marcus Paquin, and Colin Stewart. Recorded live off the floor at Studio Bell, nestled in Calgary's National Music Center, the band had access to an impressive array of gear. Notably, the captivating, fret-buzzing guitar that kicks off the record is none other than Randy Bachman's vintage Stratocaster, channeled through Neil Young's 1958 amp affectionately known as "old nasty."

After capturing the bed tracks, Trevor took the reins, recording all the vocals in the comfort of Murray's basement, jokingly referred to as the Jazz Café. The name pays homage to an old neon sign that emits the only glow in the vocal booth. In this cozy and familiar space, where the band typically spends most of their time jamming, writing and hanging out, Scenic Route to Alaska added the finishing touches to Lasts Forever. The result is an exciting and authentic album that you'll play on repeat.
