This day-long course taught by Community Clay's Founder, Roxane, provides a comprehensive understanding of commercial ceramic glazes. We will delve into the science and art behind glazing, giving you both the knowledge and confidence to achieve consistent, stunning results.
Finish the course by glazing and bringing home 3 small bowls and 3 test tiles you can use for reference.
What You’ll Learn:
- Introduction to Commercial Glazes: Get familiar with a variety of glaze types and manufacturers.
- Glaze Components & Chemistry: Understand the components that make up commercial glazes. (We will not be mixing glazes.)
- Application Techniques: Explore effective application methods including dipping, pouring, brushing and layering.
- Troubleshooting & Firing Considerations: Learn how to avoid common pitfalls and fine-tune your process.
- Hands-On Practice: Each participant will glaze 3 test tiles & 3 wheel-thrown bowls (provided by the studio). Test tiles and bowls will be fired on-site and ready to take home within 2-3 weeks. Firing included!
