Create and style your own Water Elm bonsai in this hands-on workshop led by Kyle Purvis of Honey Hill Bonsai Growers.
Join the Cape Fear Bonsai Society for a hands-on bonsai workshop featuring Water Elm (Planera aquatica), a southeastern species known for its strong growth, fine branching, and excellent response to bonsai techniques. Water elm thrives in the humid coastal climate of the southeastern United States and is an excellent species for bonsai development.
The workshop trees have been selected specifically for bonsai training and will be ready for initial styling during the session.
During this workshop, Kyle will guide participants through the initial styling and development of their tree, discussing structure, pruning decisions, and future training strategies.
Each participant will receive one Water Elm tree included with registration. The Cape Fear Bonsai Society will provide wire and basic workshop materials.
This workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced bonsai enthusiasts who want to learn about developing southeastern species.
Space is limited to allow for individual instruction.
Silent observers are welcome to attend and watch the workshop.
The workshop will be followed by Kyle’s presentation “Southeastern Trees for Bonsai” from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, which workshop participants are welcome to attend.
Participants are to bring their own basic bonsai tools.
