Description

Join the RIHS on Tuesday, December 10th at 5:30 pm, for a member-exclusive event highlighting our premiere education program, Rhode Island History Day, our state’s National History Day contest.

For over 50 years, National History Day has prepared students with the skills to succeed in the classroom and beyond. Each year, more than half a million students in grades 6-12 nationwide are guided through a process of historical research, analysis, argumentation, and creative expression. Harnessing the effectiveness of project-based learning, National History Day asks students to conduct primary and secondary-source research on a historical topic of their choosing and present their work as an individual or group project in the form of a documentary film, exhibit, paper, performance, or website.

As Rhode Island’s NHD affiliate, the RIHS supports students and teachers throughout the NHD journey, which culminates each spring with Rhode Island History Day, a daylong contest hosted at the Community College of Rhode Island, which sees hundreds of students, parents, educators, and judges from across the state gather for a day of presentations, exhibits, camaraderie, and celebration.

During the program, members will discover more about the impact of Rhode Island History Day and learn from RIHS Education Manager Michelle Walker about how the program works, the categories, and the judging process. Following the presentation, guests will have the opportunity to perform a judging simulation, where they can evaluate a project as a group.

Light refreshments will be provided.
