Description

Through the lush folk and earthy Americana of her sophomore record To Be Clear, Mia Kelly establishes herself as a spellbinding voice, blurring the lines between intimate memoir and compelling semi-fictional narratives.  "the ten tracks that form “To Be Clear” perfectly showcase Mia’s talents – notably the ease with which she switches from tender balladeer to all-out blues rocker" - Great Dark Wonder.  "Listening to Mia Kelly reminds me of the first time I heard a teenage Serena Ryder. The future is bright for this young artist." - David Reed, The Belleville Intelligencer

Performing in both French and English, Kelly enthrals listeners with a distinctive blend of Folk, Rock, and Blues.  Recently awarded Young Performer of the Year and Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards, Kelly is swiftly gaining recognition as a poetic lyricist and is making her mark in the Canadian folk music scene. She’s been covered by Blues Matters, Fatea Magazine, La Presse, Le Droit, Americana UK, the AU Review, Ottawa Citizen, CBC, Radio Canada, Roots Music Canada, Châtelaine, and many more.

She’s shared the stage with Aysanabee, The Franklin Electric, Daniel Champagne, Jeremie Albino, Julian Taylor, Lloyd Spiegel and performed at numerous Canadian festivals including Ottawa Bluesfest, Summerfolk, Festival d'été de Québec, Mission Folk Festival, Ontario Festival of Small Halls, Festival des Montgolfières, Live from the Rock, and the Winnipeg Folk Festival

Like all good stories, this is a story rooted in love.

The seeds of this story were planted way back in the 1970's, when I, Lalita, moved to Kaleden and met the Hayter family. As a youth I would love, laugh, dance, sing, and play on these lands with the Hayter cousins Kris and Myron, eating Grandma Hayters cinnamon toast after school. This family would take over my heart.

Life would happen and we would lose the Hayter cousins at a young age. Grief would move my feet to travel, but eventually these feet would bring me back home to raise my own family.

To return a lifetime later to these lands and these beautiful people completes a circle in my life, full bloom.

It is my honor to be given the opportunity to operate Frog City Cafe with my husband and hold space for love, laughter, dancing, singing, and playing.

This is a love story. This is Frog City Cafe.
