Description

“All life is interrelated. we are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 1967 Christmas Sermon

Every year, in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Sonoma Ecology Center celebrates MLK Day with a day of Service.

Dr. King devoted his life to equality, social justice, economic advancement, and opportunity for all. This volunteer event is part of a nationwide effort to empower individuals, build community connections, and celebrate Dr. King’s conviction that ‘all of life is interrelated’ by protecting the creeks and riparian corridors that increase our community's social and climate resilience.

Sonoma Ecology Center invites you to join us for a socially-distant litter clean-up. This event will focus restoration efforts on removing litter build-up from around Sonoma Creek, near the Leveroni Bridge, and at Nathanson Creek Preserve.

Litter is the visible form of stormwater pollution, a major threat to our precious parklands and waterways. Thank you for helping to protect the Sonoma Creek watershed!

Activity: Volunteers will participate in socially-distant litter cleanup.

Date & Time: Monday, January 17th from 10 am to 12 pm

Where: Volunteers should meet at Nathanson Creek Preserve, at the corner of 2nd St. East and East MacArthur at our native plant demonstration garden.

What to Wear: Please dress appropriately for the work and weather. Wear long sleeves, pants, and sturdy boots or sneakers.

What to Bring: Please bring your own gloves if you can, as well as plenty of water.

Contact Information: Tony Passantino (tony@sonomaecologycenter.org)

Weather/Cancellation Policy: All participants will be notified via email if an event is canceled due to inclement weather. If you do not hear from us you should assume the event will occur as scheduled.

Please do NOT attend this event if you are or have been experiencing symptoms of illness.

We can’t wait to get out and celebrate with you all for MLK Day of Service in 2022. Particularly given the challenges of the past couple of years, this is a great opportunity to connect with others around shared values and vision for the future.
