PATHWAYS Modern Dance Series

For 5 Fridays this summer:

June 7, June 14, June 21, June 28, and  July 5

PS21 Dance Barn

TIME: 9:00 am-10:00 am (60 minute class)

COST: $15 per class or $60 for the entire series

Come and join the dance! In this class, we begin with release technique stretches, do a short walking improv to further warm-up, then a few simple barre exercises. We learn a dance that we keep adding on to each week, so coming every week is recommended. Movements can be modified to suit you. We also do guided improvisational work. This is an all-level dance class. Experienced to beginner and everything in-between are welcome. 18 years or older.

This class is about celebrating our bodies, movement, rhythm, music and each other in one of the most beautiful dance spaces in New York State! This class mixes many different styles of modern dance technique. Reawaken the inner dancer in you in a safe and joyful environment!

About the teacher:

Margaret Hallisey’s early performances took place in her grandmother’s bedroom, age 3-4. At 8 years old, Margaret began studying Irish Step Dancing, later winning first place in the North American Championship at age 15. She began studying modern dance at Sarah Lawrence College, with many wonderful teachers including Viola Farber. After graduating from SLC in 1989, Margaret moved to NYC and worked as a modern dancer and choreographer, until she started acupuncture school in 2001. This class is an open invitation to all to join in the dance, as Margaret returns to her first great love.

Please wear comfortable clothes, sweatpants or leggings; barefoot or ballet slippers/soft dance shoes, if you prefer.

About PS21

A vibrant center for contemporary performance in the Hudson Valley, PS21 “presents work that challenges and invites” (The New York Times): adventurous productions by leading and emerging American and international artists in music, dance, and theater, and visionaries creating entirely new genres. On our open-air Pavilion Theater stage, across our expansive, unspoiled grounds, and in the diverse surrounding communities, PS21 cultivates and presents productions that transcend aesthetic boundaries and revitalize existing artistic languages and grammars. Throughout the year, we host developmental residencies for dancers, musicians, actors, and creators of original, even unclassifiable new work. Rooted in community collaboration, PS21’s programming engages creatively with critical global and social issues. It is a mecca for innovative and original artistic voices, a destination for performance that can be experienced nowhere else in the region. PS21’s Pavilion Theater is a green-energy marvel surrounded by 100 acres of unspoiled meadows, trails, and woodlands that are a haven to wildlife and visitors across the region.  Integrated into our unspoiled campus, the theater embodies our commitments to the public: open, inviting, and optimized for their enjoyment and encouraging citizen expression and participation.
