Moon Over Water are a Newcastle-based folk-fusion band bringing together indie folk, Latin American music and distinctly Australian songwriting.
Formed by songwriter and vocalist Chris Johnson, the band combines earthy acoustic songwriting with soaring harmonies, electric guitar, percussion and Latin rhythms. Their music moves comfortably between reflective folk songs, bossa and bolero-inspired textures and the infectious energy of salsa.
At the heart of Moon Over Water are songs about travel, love, chance encounters and great nights out — stories drawn from experiences at home and abroad and delivered with warmth, humour and a little cheekiness. Johnson’s down-to-earth Australian lyrics and baritone voice are complemented by Luisa Mujica’s powerful, expressive vocals, giving the band a sound that can shift from intimate and atmospheric to a full dance floor.
With a repertoire built around original music alongside a carefully chosen selection of Latin American songs, Moon Over Water aren’t interested in fitting neatly into one genre. They bring the intimacy of a folk band, the colour and rhythm of Latin music and the loose, communal energy of a great night out.
Hailing from Sydney, Good Hounds are steadily carving out their own space in Australia’s indie music scene with songs that feel both familiar and new. Blending melancholic lyricism with a warm, melodic sound, the band deliver a bittersweet strain of indie pop infused with folk sensibilities.
At the heart of Good Hounds is frontman Lachie Campbell, whose songwriting explores love, insecurity and introspection, always walking the line between heartache and hope. Drawing from the likes of Big Thief, Crowded House, The Shins and Josh Pyke, Good Hounds pair intimate songwriting with rich harmonies, acoustic textures and an understated indie-rock edge.
With a growing catalogue of releases and a reputation for warm, melodic live performances, Good Hounds are continuing to find their place in Sydney’s vibrant independent music scene.
