Description
In this single session we will work on a moody, moonlit forest scene together. With all the right colors in your roving kit we will build the scene from sky to forest floor using surprising layers of color to create an atmospheric effect.
- We will work the composition step-by-step and complete the piece during class.
- You will be introduced to the tools and materials to work along with the group, and all necessary supplies are provided.
- You will leave class with a finished piece and materials for more at home which are covered by a $30 material fee, due in class.

Each kit includes a collection of dyed wool roving in the landscape palette, felting needles, acrylic felt pinned to a foam block and printed materials outlining tools, fibers and resources.
About the instructor: Jaana Mattson is a full-time professional artist who loves to make art and loves to teach. Over the years she has developed an innovative approach to needle felting to create impressionistic and often photo-realistic landscapes from wool fiber that capture the vibrancy and nuance of landscape. In 2020 her award-winning work and tutorials were published in the book "Jaana Mattson's Landscapes in Wool: The Art of Needle Felting”. After a lifetime of appreciating the midwestern landscapes, in 2020 Jaana Mattson moved her home and studio from Minneapolis, MN to the peaceful Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Asheville, NC.
