Description

Dance Saskatchewan and On Cue Performance Hub are partnering to present Mothers and Daughters Dancing, an evening of dance which brings together senior professionals and emerging artists.  In particular, the show highlights mothers and daughters working together to not only realize a creative vision, but also to showcase the role that dance can play in connecting successive generations of artists and fostering an appreciation of the cultural and creative legacy shared by mothers and daughters. We have heard repeatedly from emerging and junior artists that they want more opportunities to work with and learn from senior artists.

We are delighted to feature the choreography of Connie Moker Wernikowski which will be danced by her daughter, Katrinna Currie, and by Connie’s two grand daughters and members of the Youth Ballet of Saskatchewan.  Additionally, we’re pleased to feature Alice Gabriel’s piece for the Youth Ballet which includes three of her daughters. Beyond bringing the Youth Ballet to this performance, Artistic Director, Michelle McMillan will herself perform to the live vocal music of her mother-in-law, Nona McMillan.  Also in this show we are featuring the Saskatoon based professional dance company, the Leleka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, led by Artistic Director, Valentyna Matyushenko. Their dances will showcase the choreography of Valentyna and her daughter, Marichka Matyushenko, and conclude with both mother and daughter dancing together.

Join us for the talkback following each performance to learn more about the creative relationships between these mothers and daughters and explore the themes and motifs they will be incorporating in their work.
