Description

Join us for the kick-off of our Spring Project Series!
In this live meeting you'll get a chance to dip your feet in the waters of boat-building.  Learn the basic terminology, materials, and tools of the trade. Our instructor Evan will take you through the series schedule, our build plans for a 12' rowing skiff made from local materials, and share a bit about his experience as an apprentice at the Arques School of Wooden Boatbuilding. Whether you're interested in following the build's progress,  learning some new techniques,  or are seriously contemplating building your own boat for a blissful summer on the lake... this series will have something for everyone.  No experience necessary!

Instructor Evan Mathiason is a lifelong woodworker. He recently completed an apprenticeship at the Arques School of Wooden Boatbuilding, focusing on traditional methods of construction, and is excited to share that experience with the MTL community through our Spring Project Series. Evan also has an interest in hand tool skills and green woodworking - including spoon and bowl carving.  In his professional life, he's worked in politics, art, and commercial photography. Recently,  he has been devoting most of his time to raising two young children, gardening and doing organizing work as a volunteer with MN350.  He lives with his wife and kids on the West side of St Paul and hopes to continue expanding his practice of wood craft.
