Description

Mend your beloved items and add a bit of extra personality to your textiles!
In this workshop, Erin will cover a variety of visible mending methods and teach you some basic stitches to repair your textiles - whether reinforcing a thinning area or patching up a hole, tear, or rip.

Participants are encouraged to bring an item (or two) that needs minor mending (like pants with a hole in the knee, a sock, unraveling knit sweater, or well-loved stuffed animal). We will discuss as a class which methods are favorable to the mend and which materials are best to use; then with guidance from the instructor and some stitch practice, participants will tackle their textiles. At the end of the class participants will have the knowledge necessary to fix their garment and will have made progress on their mend.

This course is designed for teens and adults with an interest in preserving garments or other fabric items in their home. All levels of experience are welcome.

* The shop session for this particular class is designed to flex until 9PM, so those needing or wanting additional time to mend may continue to do so in community.

Meet Your Instructor:  Erin is a gardener, environmental scientist, cat wrangler, and passionate mender. She has experience in upholstery, leather repair, dyeing and more. She is fascinated by mending to reduce one's environmental impact and reliance on inequitable labor, but also for its potential as an American folk art.
