Description

Learn about the fascinating world of fungi and how to identify fungi in their environment with local expert George Riner. We will utilize the iNaturalist app along with clues such as location, color, ecosystem, spore-producing surface, and other visuals to learn to identify specimens. Download the iNaturalist app to your mobile phone and make an observation the night before. Make sure to arrive with a full battery on your phone or you'll miss out on the fun(gi). Be prepared for two miles of leisurely walking and chatting over moderate and possibly muddy terrain.

Meet outside the Visitor Center ten minutes prior to the event start time. Wear appropriate clothing, bring a full battery on your phone, a small, handheld mirror (for looking at spore surfaces), something to kneel/sit on while you photograph, and a reusable drink container so your little ones can enjoy hot cocoa after the walk. Heavy rains cancel; parking fees apply.
