Join us for the 8th biennial My Americana, a vibrant and heartfelt duo show from the local theater company Monkey With a Hat On, featuring Ollie Collins on words and Shane O’Shields on music. It’s community, it’s theater, it’s Americana—like you’ve never seen it before.
My Americana (2025) is the story of life in Portland, OR. Exit 2B. Fireworks. 82nd Avenue. Martok. Rain. Delivering Food. Birthday Candles. Happiness. Pumpkin Pie. The American Dream.
First performed in 2011, My Americana is a performance piece with a single stage performer accompanied with a live musician and overhead projections. The show is produced every other year, presenting all new stories and songs, while usually featuring a different musician each production.
Returning for his second My Americana, the talented Shane O'Shields—described by some as a mystical, fuzzy, friendly giant—brings his signature blend of Americana, Psychedelia and Blues to the stage by playing guitar, ukulele, drums, foot tambourine, and kazoo.

“I put everything into My Americana. It’s a chance for me to provide snapshots of an individual, which I believe helps inform the story of a culture. The show is called My Americana, but I’ve always seen it as Our Americana—it’s really about all of us. We strive to make the show less of a performer’s cathartic experience and more about providing an entertaining, thought-provoking and fun experience for the audience. At the same time, if you’ve ever wanted to see me perform and perhaps gain a little insight about the crazy guy who does the intros at the Ten Minute Play Festivals, this is your chance.”
