Description

Tech Grove is going international!  We have partnered with the NATO Modeling and Simulation Working Group to offer you an opportunity to participate in an MSaaS (Modeling & Simulation as a Service) challenge over the weekend of June 23-25.  Your challenge is to provide a simulation service that is scalable (within a cloud-like environment), agile (quickly adaptable to a specific simulation use case), and suitable for either a training or experimentation event.

WHAT'S THE WHY?

NATO and nations use simulation environments for various purposes, such as training, capability development, mission rehearsal, and decision support in acquisition processes or in operations..  Consequently, Modelling and Simulation (M&S) has become a critical capability for the Alliance. M&S products are highly valuable resources and it is essential that M&S products, data, and processes are conveniently accessible to a large number of users as often as possible. However, achieving interoperability between simulation systems and ensuring the credibility of results currently requires large efforts with regard to time, personnel, and budget.

Recent developments in cloud computing technology and service-oriented architectures offer opportunities to better utilize M&S capabilities in order to satisfy NATO's critical needs.

M&S as a Service (MSaaS) is a concept that includes service orientation and the provision of M&S applications via the as-a-service model of cloud computing to enable more composable simulation environments that can be deployed and executed on demand. The MSaaS paradigm supports stand-alone use as well as integration of multiple simulated and real systems into a unified cloud-based simulation environment whenever the need arises.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU??

  • $5,000 cash prize for the winning team!
  • Top-3 teams will be invited to present their solution to the NATO MSaaS Working Group during their meeting in Orlando on 26-29 June 2023.
  • Showcase your solution to US and international simulation communities at I/ITSEC 2023 and a NATO event (i.e. NMSG Symposium, TIDE sprint, CA2X2 Forum, or similar event).
  • Dedicated I/ITSEC Press Release to highlight all participants and their solutions.
  • The rapid adoption of NATO MSaaS Principles and cloud-based simulation technology.
  • Involvement in the NATO and Multi-National MSaaS Community of Interest.
  • Exposure to military simulation subject matter experts and end users.

We offer six registrations options:

  1. IN PERSON or VIRTUAL as a participant:: I want to participate in the Challenge and jam the weekend away in Tech Grove to work on a prototype for a chance to win!
  2. IN PERSON or VIRTUAL as a SME: I'm not good at creating software but I am a subject matter expert and would like to hang out and support the teams
  3. IN PERSON or VIRTUAL on Sunday evening to see the participating teams present the prototypes they developed.

Central Florida Tech Grove

The Central Florida Tech Grove is a hub for accelerating collaboration and innovation in defense modeling, simulation, training, and human performance.  Tech Grove is located in the Central Florida Research Park in Orlando, Florida which is the epicenter of the nation's largest cluster of government, industry, academic, and industry organizations developing and delivering training and simulation products for our nation's military. Tech Grove was established in 2020 through a Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA) between the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) and the University of Central Florida Research Foundation.  Eight other Department of Defense entities are Tech Grove members: US Army Program Executive Office for Simulation Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), US Air Force Agency for Modeling & Simulation (AFAMS), US Marine Corps Program Manager for Training Systems (PM TRASYS), US Army Simulation & Training Technology Center (STTC), US Army Futures Command Synthetic Training Environment Cross-Functional Team (STE CFT), Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL), Defense Health Agency (DHA), and the Office of Naval Research through the NavalX Central Florida Tech Bridge.
