Description
Reserve your 30-minute tour of Old New-Gate's abandoned copper mine. Tours are capped at 15 people and reservations are not required. We will always leave time slots available for walk-in visitors, though those are filled on a first come first served basis. Tours run every 30 or 15 minutes depending on staff and visitation. Tours start right on the ticketed time slot, please plan to arrive 15 minutes early. Tickets for the copper mine, also includes admission to self-explore above ground.
There are 33 modern steps to enter the mine. The standard 30 minute tour leads visitors around a 100 yard loop starting at 35 feet below ground and descending to 75 feet below ground. The slope is gradual, and there is an anti-skid coating on the floor, but the footing is uneven and slanted. Closed toed shoes are recommended. The shortest tunnel is 4 feet, and required visitors to walk through it is they wish to experience the full tour. Strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, and similar devices are not permitted in the mine. We ask visitors to consider their medical history and physical limitations before descending to the mine. The mine is consistently 52 degrees and wet, all year round.
