About the Fellowship
The NextGen Theatre Artist Fellowship is a 15-week professional training program designed for aspiring theatre artists who want to understand every aspect of creating live performance. Rather than focusing on a single discipline, fellows will explore the collaborative process behind theatre by studying the departments that bring a production to life—from acting and directing to stage management, design, producing, marketing, fundraising, and arts leadership.
This fellowship is built for emerging independent theatre artists. Whether your goal is to perform, direct, design, produce, or launch your own artistic projects, the program provides the knowledge, mentorship, and professional experiences needed to understand how theatre is created from concept to curtain call.
Each week focuses on a different department of the theatre industry through classroom instruction, hands-on workshops, guest artists, and real-world learning experiences. Fellows will learn directly from working professionals in the Atlanta theatre community, visit productions at multiple levels of the industry, and build relationships with artists and leaders throughout the region.
Throughout the fellowship, participants will attend professional theatre productions, engage in discussions with guest artists, complete practical projects, and develop a comprehensive understanding of the artistic and business sides of theatre.
The fellowship concludes with the NextGen Fellowship Showcase, where each participant presents an original artistic venture to a panel of theatre professionals. This final presentation demonstrates the fellow's understanding of the collaborative process and their vision for creating meaningful theatre in their own community.
