NICO PAULO
(pronunciation: KNEE-COE-POW-LOO)

Nico Paulo is a Portuguese Canadian musician and visual artist. Her critically acclaimed, self-titled debut (April 2023) introduced listeners to her melodically dynamic, open-hearted songwriting as she explored the interconnected nature of relationships and the flow of time in lush, sophisticated pop arrangements. Her new EP, Intervalo (March 2025), finds presence in the process of becoming, celebrating transformational time with intuitive songwriting in warm ambient and minimalist soundscapes. Both records owe their textural intricacy to friend and collaborator Joshua Van Tassel (Rose Cousins, Bahamas). 

Paulo moved to Canada in 2014 to pursue her art and music, originally setting down roots in Toronto and installing herself in the city’s vibrant creative community. In the early 2020s, she moved east to St. John’s and became an essential part of Newfoundland’s celebrated music scene. Lighting out from her home base on the island, Paulo has established herself as a spellbinding live performer—warbling, swooning, fluttering, dancing—on stages around the world.

Nico Paulo est un auteur-compositeur, interprète et artiste visuel portugais/canadien. Elle a déménagé au Canada en 2014 pour poursuivre sa carrière, initialement dans la communauté artistique dynamique de Toronto, et a finalement déménagé vers l'est pour devenir un élément essentiel de la célèbre scène musicale de Terre-Neuve.

Le premier album de Paulo, sorti au printemps 2023, est une collection mélodieuse et dynamique qui la trouve explorant la nature interconnectée des relations et l'écoulement du temps dans des arrangements pop luxuriants et sophistiqués.

Frog City Cafe

Like all good stories, this is a story rooted in love.

The seeds of this story were planted way back in the 1970's, when I, Lalita, moved to Kaleden and met the Hayter family. As a youth I would love, laugh, dance, sing, and play on these lands with the Hayter cousins Kris and Myron, eating Grandma Hayters cinnamon toast after school. This family would take over my heart.

Life would happen and we would lose the Hayter cousins at a young age. Grief would move my feet to travel, but eventually these feet would bring me back home to raise my own family.

To return a lifetime later to these lands and these beautiful people completes a circle in my life, full bloom.

It is my honor to be given the opportunity to operate Frog City Cafe with my husband and hold space for love, laughter, dancing, singing, and playing.

This is a love story. This is Frog City Cafe.
