Nihilistic Easyrider is the brainchild of Narrow Head frontman Jacob Duarte—but make no mistake, he’s not going solo. DELUXE EDITION is a mixtape of sorts, a collection of songs written at various intervals throughout Duarte’s career. These songs traverse a wide-range of stylistic references, from saccharine Y2K emo and young-dumb-and-full-of pop punk to Soviet fuzz fueled alt and pure Evan Dando-core verse-chorus-verse-chorus-done pop rock. Brought to life by a cast of characters including Narrow Head drummer Carson Wilcox, producer (and former tour-mate) Graham Hunt and features from Momma’s Allegra Weingarten and Ella Friedman, this debut album still provides with masterfully crafted and hook-drenched renditions of Duarte’s signature songwriting aesthetics.

These songs wade in the same messiness of romantic misfires and burnt brain synapses that longtime Narrow Head listeners have come to know and love, just from a different, new perspective. Duarte’s tales of loneliness, anticipation, and life’s mired complexities on songs like “Getaway Plan” and “Well Kept Secret” are surrounded by a vibrant backing cast of drone-bee synth swells, barroom piano stabs, rattling acoustic guitars, and tribal-tat coded record-scratch aesthetics that subtly nod to both Incubus’ hardest moments and Deftones’ softest.

With DELUXE EDITION, Duarte provides us with diaristic vignettes of a life in perpetual motion, offering a more introspective view into the preoccupations of a songwriter whose life revolves around the stage but is ultimately lived elsewhere. To Jacob, “Nihilistic Easyrider songs are closer to the music I always wanted to make growing up,” he says, “a personal diary of growing up through music.”

Formed in 2019, the On Being an Angel sound is a mix of pop melodies boosted with fuzzy guitars and driving beats recalling the bubblegrunge era of the 90s. The band has found themselves a bit of a chameleon in their local Austin scene being recruited to showcase their heavy side opening for Quicksand one night then softening for a stripped down duo set alongside Julie Doiron for another. The Angels first touched ground out on the open road supporting The Lemonheads last year for their 30th anniversary It’s A Shame About Ray tour, and joined Juliana Hatfield again this past fall to support on a string of Midwest dates. The group will also be joining Hatfield on the American Laundromat roster this Winter with their debut vinyl release of their new single “Playin It Cool”. The tune opens with a squeal of feedback introducing the listener to Flitton’s soaring solo #1 before switching to a back-beat groove fueled by rhythm section Nevels and Wilcox as Applin bittersweetly joins in on vocals to recollect on an age-old battle of head vs heart. Accompanying the track is the B side KISS cover of “Hard Luck Woman” where the band conjoins the 12-string with the fuzz to add a new volume to a Rod Stewart inspired hard rock classic.

Damion, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and studio engineer based in Bloomington, IN, returns with "I'm Gonna Lose Control," a cinematic and captivating follow-up to his 2022 debut, "Special Interest." Drawing inspiration from legends like Wings, Laura Nyro, and Harry Nilsson, Damion blends addictive melodies with alluring lyrics, creating a listening experience that is both hauntingly familiar and refreshingly new. Akin to watching a long-forgotten cult film, "I'm Gonna Lose Control" stirs up faint memories of a time you never lived through - of a world that never quite existed, until now.
