The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership's Community Kitchen is a cookery school where everyone can cook, learn new skills and enjoy food with others. We want everyone to experience the benefits of cooking and eating together. By paying for a cookery class, you help other people to attend cookery activities, regardless of finance, confidence or ability, and to make lasting changes to their lives.
Escape to the dunes of the Sahara desert, and meander through the allies of the enchanting Kasbahs of Morocco to the pyramids of Egypt with popular food writer, presenter and Community Kitchen favourite Lerato Umah-Shaylor. In this hands-on cookery class, Lerato will show you how to become a master of spice and share amazing North African-inspired recipes from her new cookbook, Africana.
Under her expert guidance, you will work in pairs to prepare:
- Ras-el-hanout spice blend
- Celebration Tagine - inspired by Mrouzia. With saffron, apricots & preserved lemon and chicken or seasonal vegetables
- Saffron Potatoes & Peas
- Om Ali - A sinful Bread Pudding with cardamom, roses and dried fruits
A glorious feast with a spice blend, two main dishes and a dessert.
What previous participants said: “"Liked the engaging, hands-on with the chef. Good way to spend an afternoon – good food, good company." "Built up my confidence! Will treat my family to a North African meal.”
