Join Keiki and Plow for a ohana style workshop all about Kalo. Learn the origin story of one of Hawaii's most important crops, join in on a hands on Lau Lau making demo, taste different preparations of Kalo and work side by side with us harvesting and preparing huli to take home and replant in your own garden!
This workshop will be co-hosted with Uncle Alex Awo. Alex was born and raised in Hawai'i in Pauoa, O'ahu. He attended the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and Kapi'olani Community College obtaining degrees in Natural Resources & Environmental Sciences with a specialization in Wildlife Ecology, Hawaiian Studies, and Natural Life Sciences with a Certificate in Sustainability. Currently, Alex works for a local environmental nonprofit agency, Mālama Maunalua as the Director of their Habitat Restoration Programs as well as for the University of Hawai'i as an Associate Professor of Biology."
