Come out for a fun workshop on the holiday Monday afternoon before Sammy and Nadine play for us at the ANZA Club that night!
We’ll start by gathering all together to hear a demonstration and brief history of the tunes that will be taught. We’ll then split into two groups: fiddle and guitar. Participants will spend half of the allotted time learning the melodies on the fiddle and how to accompany them on the guitar. We'll reconvene at the end to jam the newly learned tunes!
The fiddle workshop, led by Sammy Lind, will focus on learning the melodies by ear, breaking them down phrase by phrase, with an emphasis on bowing. Alternate tunings will also be explored.
In Nadine’s guitar workshop tools will be provided for accompanying the fiddle tunes, with an emphasis on the "boom-chuck" rhythm that is characteristic of old time guitar backup, gradually introducing bass lines without compromising the rhythm. Participants are encouraged to bring a capo.
