Description
Relive that magical night of December 4th, 1956 when Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash gathered for an impromptu jam session at the renowned Sun Studios in Memphis.
It was a night in musical history that the world will never forget.
This theatrical production features nationally acclaimed cast members of the Broadway smash, "Million Dollar Quartet" which was about the same magical jam session.
These artists all have an uncanny sound, look and feel of the legendary stars they portray. The production also features an energetic back-up band that perfectly delivers the authentic Rockabilly, Country, Gospel and Rock ‘n Roll music.
One Night in Memphis, created and directed by John Mueller, is the number-one booked and critically acclaimed tribute to the legendary Sun Records recording artists. It has an ever-growing list of sold-out performances and outstanding reviews.
“There's a whole lotta shakin' going on, in this true American musical,” said Sharon Brass, The Barnhill Center producer. “It’s a nationally acclaimed show that is guaranteed to get you Rocking ‘n Rolling!”
The show gets off to a rocking start with Carl Perkins performing hits like “Honey Don’t,” “Brown-Eyed Handsome Man,” and “Blue Suede Shoes,” while offering up anecdotes about life as a sharecroppers’ son and his musical influences.
Midway through his set, Carl invites session musician Jerry Lee Lewis to join him. “The Killer” seizes the opportunity to front the band and lead the audience on a musical journey from New Orleans to Nashville and eventually into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame.
As Jerry puts the finishing touches on a set which includes “High School Confidential”, “Breathless, “Whole Lotta Shaking Goin' On,” and “Great Balls of Fire,” the audience will have an opportunity to catch their breath for a few minutes.
Then Johnny Cash is welcomed to the stage with his musical journey including smash hits “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Ring of Fire,” and “I Walk the Line.”
Next up…Elvis Presley who electrifies the audience and transports them back to his beginnings, where he went from driving a truck to delivering eleven #1 hits between 1956 -1959. Hits like “Shake, Rattle & Roll” to “All Shook Up,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Don’t be Cruel,” and “Hound Dog.”
You will feel as though you are witness to the Rock ‘n Roll royalty jam session with the celebrated performers whose music has stood the test of time.
