Description

Join us on Saturday the 12th of July at room 098B of the Bronson Centre to collectively watch a live webinar on Palestinian resistance arts with El-Funoun, a legendary Palestinian dance troupe. Doors open at 12:30pm and webinar starts at 1:00pm.

The discussion, lead by El-Funoun, will explore how creativity becomes rebellion, how culture fuels resilience, and why art is a weapon of liberation in the struggle for Palestine.

El-Funoun was established in 1979 by a small group of enthusiastic, creative and committed artists. The Troupe has developed an innovative style of dance deeply-rooted in Palestinian and Arab folklore and informed by elements of contemporary dance movement. A leading cultural institution in Palestine, El-Funoun has used dabke, music, and cultural work as tools to confront erasure and resist the zionist occupation, making them and their dancers a continuous target of imprisonment and repression by the zionist entity. More than artists, El-Funoun are cultural defenders.

PYM

We are a transnational, independent, grassroots movement of young Palestinians dedicated to the liberation of our homeland and people.

The Palestinian Youth Movement (“PYM”) is a transnational, independent, grassroots movement of young Palestinians in Palestine and in exile worldwide as a result of the ongoing Zionist colonization and occupation of our homeland. Our belonging to Palestine and our aspirations for justice and liberation motivate us to assume an active role as a young generation in our national struggle for the liberation of our homeland and people. Irrespective of our different political, cultural and social backgrounds, we strive to revive a tradition of pluralistic commitment toward our cause to ensure a better future, characterized by freedom and justice on a social and political level, for ourselves and subsequent generations.
