Painting a Raudsamsmåled Fjord Horse with Kim Garrett

Class description: In this class the student will review some of the basic history, design, and colors of the Raudsamsmåling  style of rosemaling and then over the course of the class complete a design provided by the instructor on a specially designed fjord horse plaque.  This class will be taught in oils but acrylic painters are welcome but will need to be comfortable handling their own mediums.  Paint colors for acrylic painters will be provided.  Basic rosemaling skills preferred.  There will not be class time spent on stroke work and basic Rosemaling skills.


Class level:  Intermediate


Medium being used :  Oil, acrylic painters welcome.


Surface: 10 inch wood fjord horse plaque.  Source for the horse is in the supply list.

Instructor: Kim Garrett


Instructor biography: Extensive teaching experience teaching rosemaling both in person and on an on-line format.  Venues include, RCC convention, North House Folk School, Duluth Folk school, WSRA, INRA, Ely Folk School, Vesterheim Norwegian American Museum, and multiple private classes throughout the Midwest.  Online classes for Ely Folk School, North House Folk School, Vesterheim, INRA, and Nordic Canvas Folk Art Studio.  I’ve been rosemaling since 2008 and taken classes with several experienced rosemalers and gold medalists.  I’ve also studied with several Norwegian rosemalers both in the US and in Norway.


Location:  This is an online class hosted on Zoom.  All technical requirements needed to join the class are the responsibility of the student. RCC virtual classes will not be recorded. All classes are listed in the Central time zone.

Rosemaling Coast to Coast, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organized to celebrate the art of Norwegian rosemaling through a national organization that supports and enriches the artistic activities of the individual.
