Panel Discussion: Letters to Ms. 1000: Words of Wisdom from African American Women Architects
A Panel Discussion and Book Signing co-Sponsored by National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) Atlanta Chapter with special introductory remarks from Bangseh Akuchu, President of NOMA Atlanta and an architect at Gensler, specializing in equitable urban development.
About the Event:
Did you know that Black women make up just 0.4% of licensed architects in the United States?
In celebration of Women’s History Month, join MODA for a panel discussion and book signing centered on Letters to Ms. 1000: Words of Wisdom from African American Women Architects, Vol. 1. The conversation features Atlanta-based architects and contributing authors Shelly-Anne Tulia Scott and Jonné Smith.
The book brings together personal letters from Black women architects across the country, sharing hard-earned lessons, lived experiences, and visions for a more equitable profession. Illustrated by Black architect and illustrator Ochuko Evwaraye, Letters to Ms. 1000 pairs powerful storytelling with a bold goal: that by 2040, there will be 1,000 licensed Black women architects in the U.S.
What to Expect:
- A dynamic discussion of the state of architecture in Atlanta today, especially focused on Black women architects in the field
- Insider’s look at the book from the perspective of the authors themselves
- An opportunity to ask questions to the panel during a Q & A Session
- Connecting with architects and design enthusiasts in Atlanta
- Purchase the book and have it signed by the authors
At check-out, Pre-order a copy of Letters to Ms. 1000: Words of Wisdom from African American Women Architects
