Parent Q&A: What Changes When Parents Build Skills Together

  • May 20, 2026 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Central Daylight Time

Description

When parents learn together, everything shifts. Join us for an open Q&A about the power of building skills, leaning on each other, and sharing what you know.

  • What becomes possible when parents grow their advocacy skills together
  • Why peer support changes the game for families navigating special education
  • How sharing knowledge builds a stronger community for every child

This event is hosted in partnership with FIEL Houston (Familias Inmigrantes y Estudiantes en la Lucha), a Houston-based organization dedicated to advocacy, access to education, and support for immigrant families. Founded in 2007, FIEL has been a trusted resource and beacon for the Houston community for nearly two decades. We are honored to share space with an organization that shows up for families the way FIEL does.

S.P.E.D Advocates

Families are often expected to navigate special education systems without ever being shown how those systems work, how decisions get made, or what to do when the path forward isn't clear.

S.P.E.D Advocates exists to change that.

We prepare and equip parents and caregivers to advocate effectively for their children, starting with special education and extending wherever advocacy is needed. When the adults around a child are clear, confident, and skilled, that child is better served. When parents grow, impact multiplies.

Our mission is simple: Serve. Protect. Equip. Discern.

We work with families at every stage. Some are brand new to IEPs and ARD meetings. Others are experienced advocates looking to sharpen what they already know. Both belong here. Advocacy is a skill. It can be learned, practiced, and strengthened, and you don't have to figure it out alone.
