August 4th at 4pm

Gamelan Yowana Sari performs Balinese Gamelan - old and new.  Join Gamelan Yowana Sari for an indoor-outdoor, site-responsive performance of his new works for Gamelan. New works by Vivian Fung, Michael Gordon, and Evan Ziporyn, and traditional Balinese music for the Samara Dana gamelan will be performed along with accompanying traditional dances.  Join us after the performance to try out the instruments and talk with the performers!

Directed by Michael Lipsey, Yowana Sari champions an international array of composers for the gamelan. It has appeared at many festivals, including the River To River Festival, and participates with Midori & Friends and the Cultural After School Adventures (CASA) program to enrich New York public school students’ experience of music.

PS21/Chatham’s PATHWAYS is a multidisciplinary public initiative of free and affordable performances, classes, workshops, and events tailored to the local community. PATHWAYS resides at the intersection of nature and the arts, incorporating PS21’s green, reconfigurable theater and our 100-acres of trails and meadows for site-specific performances and encounters. Beyond our grounds, PS21 brings PATHWAYS to communities throughout our region with programs in city parks, libraries, village streets, farms, and parking lots, all offered free of charge.

About PS21

A vibrant center for contemporary performance in the Hudson Valley, PS21 “presents work that challenges and invites” (The New York Times): adventurous productions by leading and emerging American and international artists in music, dance, and theater, and visionaries creating entirely new genres. On our open-air Pavilion Theater stage, across our expansive, unspoiled grounds, and in the diverse surrounding communities, PS21 cultivates and presents productions that transcend aesthetic boundaries and revitalize existing artistic languages and grammars. Throughout the year, we host developmental residencies for dancers, musicians, actors, and creators of original, even unclassifiable new work. Rooted in community collaboration, PS21’s programming engages creatively with critical global and social issues. It is a mecca for innovative and original artistic voices, a destination for performance that can be experienced nowhere else in the region. PS21’s Pavilion Theater is a green-energy marvel surrounded by 100 acres of unspoiled meadows, trails, and woodlands that are a haven to wildlife and visitors across the region.  Integrated into our unspoiled campus, the theater embodies our commitments to the public: open, inviting, and optimized for their enjoyment and encouraging citizen expression and participation.
