As part of Heritage Square’s theme for 2023-2024, the History of Science Fiction, this series of three interactive workshops will engage participants in the intersection of Phoenix history, speculative fiction, and climate impacts and solutions.

  • Crafting Climate Narratives: A Dive into Climate Fiction Writing – Lead by local author, Tam Chronin, get an introduction to writing in the Climate Fiction genre, learning how to weave the human experience into character development, the craft of world-building as it relates to our potential climate-impacted future.
  • Unveiling Phoenix’s Environmental Tapestry through Time: Did you know climate is one of Arizona’s 5 C’s? Learn more about Phoenix climate history, focusing on how its inhabitants, from the Ancestral Sonoran Desert People to today’s diverse communities, have interacted with the local environment.
  • Navigating Climate Realities: Phoenix’s Path to Resilience: Dive into climate impacts specific to our area, what solutions are currently being developed, and what directions our future could go depending on the choices we make today individually and as a society. “But it’s a DRY heat!”
