ABOUT PI BETA PHI

In 1867, 12 courageous young women set the stage for a thriving organization that continues to enrich the lives of many during their collegiate years and beyond. Throughout our history, Pi Beta Phi has helped young women develop meaningful relationships with others while reaching their personal potential. These relationships help sisters adapt to college life by providing a sense of belonging, mutual support and guidance. Our legacy of philanthropic service, innovative member programming, premier events and leadership development programs help our sisters become Friends and Leaders for Life.

READ > LEAD > ACHIEVE

Read > Lead > Achieve® is Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic effort, which inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential, creating a more literate and productive society.  We believe in the power of reading. We believe reading always has been — and always will be — a powerful step toward a life of enduring impact. We believe that when one out of four children grows up unable to read, that’s one child too many. For more than a century, we’ve committed ourselves to creating a more literate and productive society.

One child … one moment at a time … one life changed forever.

Every Pi Phi is asked to be ONE who will participate, donate and advocate for Pi Phi's Read > Lead > Achieve reading initiatives which include:

  • Fraternity Day of Service Signature Events – Pi Beta Phi's literacy events, held the weekend of Fraternity Day of Service in major cities across North America, which give volunteers the opportunity to distribute 20,000 new, age-appropriate books to children in need.
  • Champions are Readers® – Pi Beta Phi's unique reading enrichment program for students in prekindergarten through third grade.
  • FDS500 – Pi Beta Phi Foundation’s grant program which awards 100 First Book® recipient groups, nominated by Pi Phi clubs and chapters, with grants to purchase 500 new books for children in need.
  • The Literacy Advocacy Project – Pi Beta Phi’s advocacy training program which explores all aspects of literacy advocacy — why it’s important, how you can make an impact and what is needed to become an agent of change.
