Politics in the Pub | Our Changing Seas and Us: A conversation about our warming oceans

  • September 10, 2026 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Turbine Platform - Brisbane Powerhouse

    Brisbane Powerhouse
    New Farm, Queensland 4005
Description

Presented by: New Farm Neighbourhood Centre.

Our seas are warming, with coral bleaching, species migration and species loss, and extreme weather events becoming more frequent.

Already the impacts are being felt- on fishing, tourism, recreation and food security.

For a people whose identity is bound to the sea, what is the measure of this loss – for our environment, our economy, for who we are?

Panel

Professor Helen Bostock, Oceanographer

Professor Kerrie Foxwell-Norton, Environmental communication

Jennah Williams, Marine Scientist

Zoe McLeish, Surf Lifesaving Queensland

Hosted by Elly Pashen (4ZZZ)

Politics in the Pub is a volunteer run community conversation which tackles the most pressing contemporary issues for both Australia and the world.

New Farm Neighbourhood Centre, a program of Communify Queensland, has been hosting Politics in the Pub events for 2 decades with each event offering a pressing contemporary issue addressed by a panel of experts and an open conversation in which all members of the community can engage in, debate and discuss.

The event is made possible through the generous support of the Patrons of New Farm, Village Voice and Brisbane Powerhouse.

The bar will be open and the conversation will be lively. Come along and join the conversation.

This is a “Pay What You Wish” performance. Feel free to contribute or come along for free! Ticket registration is encouraged to secure your spot. All proceeds (minus booking fees) go to the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre.
