Description

Harmonicham presents Christian Cang cuesta on Organ at St Mary's Church, Swaffham Prior, in a brand new program entitled 'Portrait of a Hero'. This concert will contain three world premieres by contemporary composers, and be topped and tailed by J. S. Bach.

  • Bach, Fantasia in G Minor, BWV 542

  • Gentner, The Depths

  • Latchford,  Perpetual Fugue

  • Fleischhacker, Variations

  • Bach, Fugue in G Minor, BWV 542

  • Encore??? (Preview of the next organ album)

'This album sort of came together organically,' Christian says. 'I just had composers who were interested in writing organ music for me, and I was readily adding them to this project. When I took a bird's eye view of the pieces, I realised that they all contain values that I appreciate in a person: Bach contains beauty through angst, Ruiz-Pacheco has whimsical introspection, Fleishhacker has humour, my piece has romance, Latchford has brotherhood and discipline, Gentner has faith and courage, and Karam has strength. So, when you put the whole album together, you get an image of a person who not only inspires you, but also someone with whom you would want to hang out. And thus, the title of the album was born!'

Some of the composers contributed their own thoughts and insights into their work. Christian already gave his thoughts about the Perpetual Fugue in the previous edition of the Harmonicham Monthly. You can read Tristan Latchford's just-released post from his Buy Me a Coffee page about the same piece.
