THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. Stay tuned for details on the rescheduled date!
Although most Americans have heard of sugar plums thanks to the famous holiday poem, many have never have had the pleasure of tasting one, or even know what they really are (hint: they are not sugar-dusted plums). This is because sugar plums are one of the Gilded Age holiday sweets that got eclipsed as America moved into the twentieth century. But The Gilded Age Christmas Cookbook bridges the past and present, bringing back sugar plums and other "lost" confections, while revisiting some beloved favorites and exploring some fascinating history!
Join Binding Agents and author Becky Libourel Diamond for a conversation on the Christmas foods, aesthetic, and lore of the era, the process of adapting historical recipes for today’s ingredients and appliances, and why the traditions of this period should captivate us today. Becky will be joined in conversation by food stylist and fellow historian Dan Macey.
Cookies will be served!
Guests may choose a ticket with or without a copy of the book. Prices are inclusive of fees. Entrance to the shop requires one step up. Please contact us at hello@bindingagentsphilly.com with any questions or accessibility needs; we'd be happy to help.
