Predicament Night: a workshop + collaborative open play event celebrating predicament play
7pm-9pm: Playing with Predicaments workshop
9pm-12am: Predicament Play Time (predicament-focused play, with the option of participating in collaborations & group predicaments, or doing your own predicament scenes)
Attendees can get tickets for just the workshop, just the open predicement play time, or both!
Playing with Predicaments workshop (7pm-9pm): Experienced predicament players Parker & Juniper demonstrate and explain ways of setting up a predicament play rope scene, using tools and techniques to create a set of nefarious parameters and challenging choices. The person in the predicament is often faced with choosing among different incentives or disincentives, to lean into one sensation and pull away from another. Predicaments can to involve a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" dilemma--leaving the person in rope trying to figure a way out, even when there's probably just a choice between one trap and another. Predicaments can involve a slow-burn, build-up of intensity from mild to excruciating. Parker & Juniper present some of our favorite predicaments and hope to inspire your creative, quirky, and even ridiculous sides, perhaps bringing out our inner mad-scientist sadists & James Bond escape artists. Parker & Juniper has presented this workshop at major conventions such as Tethered Together, and now are bringing it to Coil & Cord!
Predicament Playtime (9pm-12am): After taking the workshop, attendees have space to try out getting into some predicaments of their own! Instructors will be available for assistance and safety monitoring. Collaborative predicament plotting and group shenanigans are welcome and encouraged. Participation is entirely optional, and observing without directly participating is also acceptable and valid.
Skills/Experience Needed: No specific skills or experience are required for this workshop.
Partnering: Attend this workshop solo, with a partner, or in a group! Observers are welcome, and connecting and collaborating with people at the workshop is welcome and encouraged. You can attend the workshop with a partner, but you certainly don't have to!
What to Bring: We invite you to bring rope if you have it, and suspension gear if you know how to suspend. Any interesting items that you would like to incorporate into a predicament scene are also welcome. However, no specific gear is required!
What past attendees are saying about Parker & Juniper's "Playing with Predicaments" workshop:
"Fantastic class!"
"Loved the class! I liked how many different concepts they demonstrated and how they talked through the core ideas behind how they think about designing predicaments."
"Seriously how did they make predicaments so fun/funny? Unexpectedly fantastic. I was literally grinning, nodding in approval, internally cheering and rooting them on. The chemistry was off the charts, obviously very experienced subject matter experts that both know how to handle a large class and presentations."
"One trillion star rating."
"So many creative ways to set up predicament. The presenters were a blast to watch. Would take class again"
