Preserving the Craft of Lacemaking in Contemporary Fashion
A conversation with designer Emily Adams Bode Aujla
December 14 at 6 pm
Bard Graduate Center, 38 West 86th Street, Lecture Hall

An evening with acclaimed menswear designer Emily Adams Bode Aujla, an innovator in textile and craft conservation and the re-use, study, and preservation of antique lace. Bode, in conversation with Threads of Power curators Emma Cormack and Michele Majer, will explore the importance of the archive in contemporary lace fashion and how the craft of lacemaking connects us to our past, present, and future.

Emily Adams Bode Aujla was the first female designer to show at NYFW: Men's. She is paving the way for women entrepreneurs in the menswear industry. In 2016, she launched her brand with a collection of one-of-a-kind garments composed entirely of antique textiles. She continues to reinvigorate American menswear through the art of storytelling and preservation with these foundational one-of-a-kind pieces alongside collections of historical reproductions. Bode has been recognized with numerous awards, including 2021 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Menswear Designer of the Year, 2020 Woolmark Prize: Karl Lagerfeld Award, 2019 Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) Prize Finalist, 2019 CFDA Emerging Designer of the Year, 2019 Business of Fashion 500, 2019 GQ's Breakthrough Designer of the Year, and Forbes 30 Under 30.
