Description
Your creative prime can begin at any age. You're invited to get immersed into the artist process and build new skills through eight weeks of hands-on making.
Prime Practice is an eight-week studio course for adults 55 and older who are ready to try something new, strengthen their skills and connect with others. Choose printmaking with Vince Long, watercolor with John Isaiah Kennedy or both.
Regular creative practice can support well-being far beyond the studio.
No previous art experience is required. Materials are included, and each two-hour session is designed to make participation comfortable and approachable.
Printmaking with Vince Long
Explore four different approaches to printmaking while creating stationery you can use, keep or give as a holiday gift.
Over eight weeks, artist and designer Vince Long will introduce screen printing, block printing, gel plate printing and experimental printing with found objects. Participants will create a stationery set using each technique and leave with four finished collections.
Long is a Memphis-based artist, designer and educator. He founded VL Print after graduating from the University of Memphis Fashion Design program. He also teaches at the University of Memphis, sells his work through The Ugly Art Co. and works as an art handler.
Designed with accessibility in mind
Prime Practice is designed to support a range of visual, mobility and fine-motor needs. Course materials will use large, easy-to-read text, and projects will avoid small-scale or highly detailed work. Adaptive tools, including large-grip paintbrushes, will be available, and guide lines will be provided for the pixel-based watercolor project.
Most activities can be completed while seated, with little to no standing required.
