Description
It's never too late to become an artist. Prime Practice is an eight-week studio course that gives adults the opportunity to explore the artist's process, learn hands-on techniques, and build lasting skills.
Open to adults of all ages, the course welcomes anyone ready to try something new, sharpen their abilities, and meet others who share an interest in creating. Choose printmaking with Vince Long, watercolor with John Isaiah Kennedy, or enroll in both.
No prior art experience is needed. All materials are provided, and each two-hour session is structured to keep the experience accessible and welcoming for every skill level.
Watercolor with John Isaiah Kennedy
Get first hand insights into John Isaiah Kennedy's creative process and discover how he constructs images using color, pattern, and repetition.
Over the course of the class, participants will explore watercolor techniques and color theory, then apply what they've learned to create two finished pieces inspired by Kennedy's signature styles — one drawing from quilt patterns, the other from pixel art and classic video game sprites. The class will also contribute to a larger collaborative artwork that Kennedy will complete in his own studio.
Kennedy holds a BFA in studio art from the University of Tennessee at Martin and an MFA in painting from the University of Memphis. His artistic practice includes painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture, installation, illustration, photography, and video.
