Description

The new rock compositions in PROTEST transcend the decades, ranging from the Civil Rights era to Black Lives Matter, climate change, gun violence, voting rights, women’s rights, immigrant rights, and war. The inspiration for PROTEST came to fruition in the wake of George Floyd’s murder and the following upheaval in the Twin Cities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, fifteen Twin Cities artists—composers, lyricists, and producers—developed PROTEST to inspire change in our society through their music!

PROTEST pays tribute to: Alice Paul, Jane Fonda, Dolores Huerta, Marsha P. Johnson, Angela Davis, Elaine Brown, Diane Nash, Eartha Kitt, Gloria Steinem, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Stacey Abrams, Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, Greta Thunberg, X González, Malala Yousafzai, Jayna Zweiman, Krista Suh, Kimberly Jones, and Winona LaDuke.
