A night of cumbia, baile, and vinyl selections unfolds at Pidgin Palace on Friday, May 8th. Los Paisanos bring their raw, psychedelic cumbia from North County San Diego, joined by Arizona’s Pijama Piyama who delivers a hypnotic blend of synths, surf guitar, and tropical rhythms that lean into repetition and movement. Vinyl selections throughout the night from DJENTS bringing global sounds, soul, and deep cuts. Rooted in rhythm and atmosphere, the evening invites a steady build on the dance floor—loose, immersive, and shaped by sound, connection, and shared energy.
Los Paisanos
In the deep inland barrios of North County San Diego emerges the super sonic of cumbia-psych quintet band Los Paisanos. Through highs and lows, the band has persevered through challenges and accomplishments. Officially becoming a powerhouse of a musicians formed in 2024, the band continues to push and break barriers through live music
Pijama Piyama
Pijama Piyama is a psychedelic cumbia project from Arizona, blending hypnotic synths, surf-soaked guitars, drum machines, and tropical low end into a swirling, nocturnal dance ritual. Inspired by Cumbia, Salsa, Frank Zappa and the world of psychedelia, their music aims to capture a playful amalgamation that spawns a synergy—a cheeky collision of tangible past and pixelated present.
The band’s diverse sonic palette and infectious energy has brought them success performing alongside local and touring acts such as Tropa Magica, Son Rompe Pera, Cimba Funk, Levitation Room, the Mauskavik Dance Band, Phoenix AfroBeat Orchestra, Orkesta Mendoza and more. Pijama Piyama is currently on tour supporting their second full-length album, 'Lazer Moon vol. 1', which further develops their rhythmic, groove-focused approach while exploring fragments of: cumbia, champeta, psych rock, and even stranger sounds.. Through immersive live performances, Pijama Piyama continues to connect audiences through movement, repetition, and shared energy.

Alex Votichenko, also known as DJENTS has become an icon of the Phoenix underground music scene over the last 20 years. This strictly vinyl DJ brings an eclectic sound to his sets, fusing together a diverse selection of world beats mixed with classic soul and modern electronic styles. When attending his shows, you are likely to hear music you’ve never heard before mixed into classics that you don’t hear enough.
