Thunder River Theatre Company is hosting a free Women's Self Defense Class on June 15, 2024 at the Carbondale Rec Center. Come join us to learn basic techniques with a theatrical flair with Katherine Stepanek.
Katherine Stepanek is a dynamic professional with a unique blend of theater and martial arts experience. She holds two BFAs from Webster Conservatory in Lighting and Scenic Design and an MFA in Scenic Design from the University of Tennessee. Currently, she is the Head of Scenic and Lighting Design and Stage Management at Colorado Mesa University and runs an active design business nationwide.
In addition to her theatrical career, Katherine is deeply immersed in the martial arts world. She holds a blue belt in Krav Maga from the Krav Maga Syndicate and has trained as a competitive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu grappler, an MMA fighter, and in escrima (weapons). She started, designed, and ran her own women's self-defense program within Bullman's Krav Maga and Kickboxing, where she also worked as a certified kickboxing instructor, yoga teacher, and personal trainer. The discipline, creativity, and resilience from her martial arts training seamlessly translate into her approach to theater design, adding a unique and energetic perspective to her work.
