$17 Advance/$20 Doors

The Random Band Challenge returns in 2025 at Square Cat. It's a competition show with bands formed randomly and tasked with writing original music in a couple month's time. Here are the ground rules:

  • 10 bands competing that are selected by random drawing
  • Two months of prep time to perform three original songs or 15 minutes live at Square Cat November 7
  • Judging based on the following categories: stage presence, originality, song quality, specialty song execution, and band name
  • Audience vote counts along with weighted judges' votes

Square Cat Vinyl is a one of a kind record shop in the Fountain Square Cultural District in Indianapolis. The space is comprised of a record store, performance venue, and a bar serving beer, wine, and coffee drinks. Our mission is to be a music communal space for local and traveling musicians. We serve as a meeting ground for musicians of different types and ages along with music aficionados throughout the region.
