Rat Dissection Class

Description

This event will deal with hazardous chemicals such as formaldehyde and isopropyl alcohol.  You will also be using sharp dissection tools such as scissors, probes, pins, etc.  If you are sensitive to chemicals, or unable to properly use sharp tools, we kindly ask that you skip this class.

ATTENDEES MUST BE 18+.  WE WILL ASK EVERYONE TO VERIFY THEIR AGE AT WAIVER SIGNING.   EACH ATTENDEE MUST SIGN A WAIVER PRIOR TO DISSECTING. 

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Neil will guide you through a full dissection of a preserved rat.  You will receive everything you need including a pre-preserved rat, safety glasses & gloves, guides & charts, tools, jars, and more.  This is a slow paced, and thorough anatomy lesson.  While we will have scheduled plenty of time for questions and fresh air breaks, this event MAY go over the 7:30pm end time. 

WHAT WE ASK:

We ask that all attendees follow a small list of suggestions.

• You may be overwhelmed by the strong smell of formaldehyde. We will have our doors open for ventilation, and scheduled breaks for fresh air.  As a reminder we do ask that you skip this event if you are sensitive to smells, pregnant, or ill.  We will provide gloves and safety glasses, however if you would feel comfortable wearing a mask, or face shield please bring one, as they are not provided.
• You may get splashed or dripped on.  Please dress accordingly.  We suggest "cleaning clothes" or "yardwork clothes".  We also suggest closed toe shoes, in the event tools are dropped.  
• Any attendee with long hair, we ask that you have it pulled up.  
• Please refrain from wearing any jewelry.  As someone who has had to take their wedding set to Jared's to get dried brain and squid cleaned out, please consider removing all stones that may puncture gloves or create uncomfortable situations for your local jewelry cleaner. 

THE END OF THE CLASS & ABOUT THE RATS:

We will provide you with one jar to keep whatever parts of the rat you would like to keep.  Hearts, lungs, testicles, tails, you name it!  We will also give you a splash of alcohol to get your keepsakes home.  We will handle all cleanup, disposal, and tool sanitization.  You will have access to our restroom as well as hand sanitizer.  

These rats were obtained from a reptile feeder company we work with.  They were euthanize as reptile feeder, and due to a host of reasons, didn't make it to a hungry snake's stomach.  They would have otherwise been discarded.  They have already been preserved, by us, for this event.
