Description
Real Poems Reading People #5 will be held at the beautiful Aretha Jazz Cafe in Music hall on May 20th, 2026 (doors open at 6:30pm). The reading will feature Brian Gyamfi, Author of What God in the Kingdom of Bastards (UPITT Press), Denise R. Ervin, beloved Detroit poet and educator, as well as some emerging artists and student poets from the Detroit and surrounding areas. There will be a cash bar and food options provided by the Cafe, and Chrysalism will be hosting our very first merch sale–hoodies and long sleeve T's will be available on site for purchase (cash only: hoodies are $25 and T-shirts are $15). The even is free and open to the public, but we do appreciate and accept donations. All donations will go toward our growing overhead costs, as well as continued promotion of our events, our press, and our goal of establishing the Chrysalism Press Scholarship for Creative Writing. Any ticket purchase over $5 will be eligible for our free hoodie raffle at the reading (once you arrive, check in at the reception area with your donation proof, and you will receive your raffle ticket).
