Rob Flax possesses a rare combination of skills: he is an award-winning virtuoso violinist, classically trained but known for his jazz and improvisational pyrotechnics and irresistible grooves; he is also a powerhouse vocalist, capable of silky crooning a la Nat King Cole or visceral Chicago blues shouts. Rob has performed nationally and internationally with artists such as B.B. King, Tower of Power and many others. He has written music for choreographers, film and several original projects.

Rob Flax’s Boom Chick Trio is a new “supergroup” that features Slava Tolstoy on guitar and Chris Tate on cello. Slava Tolstoy is a Boston based guitarist, singer and producer, originally from St. Petersburg Russia. His International String Trio fuses Gypsy Jazz with World Music and has toured across USA many times.

Chris Tate is a cellist and composer based in Boston, MA. Trained in the classical tradition from a young age, he now performs everything from jazz to folk to hip-hop, sometimes on purpose. His musical journey has taken him to stages ranging from Blues Alley to the Kennedy Center, where he continues to push the boundaries of what the cello can do

New Song embodies the vitality and verve that made its predecessor, the original New Song Coffeehouse (1985–2008) in Bedford, Massachusetts, a much-beloved music venue for more than 20 years.

Entirely volunteer-run, we stage nine shows yearly featuring the best contemporary folk, Americana, and bluegrass performed by local, regional, and international talent. Our concerts are held in the historic Reed Room at Bedford Town Hall, offering superb acoustics in a comfortable setting.
