Description

Rope for Roughhousing

a workshop with Parker

Grabbing someone, pushing them up against a wall, down to the floor or onto a surface, and otherwise "manhandling" them can be exciting! Rope can be a useful tool for such asymmetrical rough body play, and can help to put the recipient at a physical disadvantage.

Through demonstration, explanation, and hands-on practice, this workshop teaches techniques for tying a person into a state of mobile immobilization: somewhat immobilized, yet still mobile enough to be moved around a room or rolled into different fun positions.

Participants will learn how to create handles and attachment points on otherwise slippery bodies. Participants will also view demonstrations of techniques for manhandling a tied-up bottom into different positions. These techniques are especially useful for situations in which the person tying is physically smaller than the person being tied, though people of any sizes can use the principles and techniques taught in this class.

Partnering: Attendees are welcome to attend solo or with a partner.  The hands-on portions of the workshop are designed for tying pairs, but solo attendees are welcome to observe those portions of the workshop or to try to pair up with another solo attendee in the class.

Skills/Experience: This class is a lower intermediate rope floorwork class that’s appropriate for people who have taken Parker's Beginner Rope Intensive or an equivalent beginner rope class.   People tying in the class should already know: a Somerville Bowline single-column tie, a half-hitch, and a square knot. Everyone in the class should be aware of their bodies and able to communicate about their physical capacities and limits.

What to Bring: 3 - 4 full (~25-35 ft.) lengths of rope.  There will also rope available for sale at the workshop.

Please RSVP with the name you want on the door list!
