Rosemaling with Oil Paint for Acrylic Painters with Julie Anderson

Class description: Curious about oils? This class is for acrylic painters who want to give oil painting a try. Learn how oil paint handles differently through lecture and hands-on practice.  We will cover brush loading, blending techniques, methods to clean up mistakes and use of mediums. We’ll also discuss brush cleaning, studio safety, and tips to avoid smudging wet paint. 

 

This session will be recorded and available for playback for registered attendees.

 

Class level:  All levels of painters

 

Medium being used :  Oil paints

 

Surface:  Plain paper, painted paper surface

 

Supplies:  Supplies you are using in a Rosemaling Coast to Coast convention class taught in oils.  If you are not taking a class at the convention, then you will need brushes (round, filbert and/or flat), liner brush, palette knife, palette, oil paint, painting medium (i.e. linseed oil, walnut oil or walnut alkyd medium), painted surface (any color) preferred over plain paper, paper towels, brush cleaner.

Note about supplies and additional information: The class fee does not include the cost of supplies. This is the responsibility of the student. The supplies needed, class pattern and color photos are included in the supply list linked above.

 

Instructor: Julie Anderson

 

Instructor biography:  Julie Anderson has been teaching rosemaling since 1998, sharing her love for the art. Since the fall of 2020, she has also been teaching virtually. Her instruction emphasizes techniques, interpreting old work, and exploring color, design, and personal expression with focus on the Hallingdal, Telemark and Os styles. She has received an honorable mention in the 2019 Vesterheim Norwegian-American Folk Art Exhibition and was featured in MacPherson’s Artist Spotlight.

 

Location:  This is an online class hosted on Zoom.  All technical requirements needed to join the class are the responsibility of the student. RCC virtual classes will be recorded. All classes are listed in the Central time zone.
