Description

Historic Rock Ford welcomes Dr. Jenel Schaffer of Sheep Hill Herbs & Fiber Arts for a rug hooking workshop. In this short-format workshop, participants will be introduced to the basics of rug hooking using wool strips and a simple foundation. Because time is limited, we will focus on creating a small, finished piece such as a seasonal ornament. The emphasis is on learning the foundational technique, enjoying the rhythm of handwork, and leaving with something meaningful and complete. Participants will be guided step-by-step through design transfer, hooking technique, and finishing basics. Materials will be provided, and beginners are welcome. Each participant will also receive a small take-home supply kit so they can continue practicing and completing additional small projects after the workshop.

Dr. Jenel Schaffer is a Master Herbalist, fiber artist, and teacher based in Oley, Pennsylvania, working under Sheep Hill Herbs & Fiber Arts (www.sheephillherbs.com). Her work is rooted in traditional rug hooking, natural materials, and a lifelong study of plants, herbal medicine, and rural craft traditions. Over the past 25 years, she has studied herbs and plant-based medicine, taught workshops, and created small-batch herbal products alongside fiber art practice. Her rug hooking work is inspired by farm life, historic homes, sheep, gardens, and the quiet beauty of the natural world.

This workshop will be held in the Langmuir Education Room located on the 1st floor of the Rock Ford Barn.
