Sweet treats. Starry skies. A perfect night at the Observatory! Join us at the Robert Ferguson Observatory for S’mores & Scopes, a cozy evening of stargazing, telescope viewing, and everyone’s favorite campfire treat!
Gather with family and friends under the dark skies of Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, make a delicious s’more, and then turn your eyes toward the universe. Instead of scary campfire stores, RFO’s knowledgeable volunteer docents will guide you through the stories of the constellations. Take in views of the night sky using our telescopes, where we’ll be pointing out some of the season’s most fascinating celestial sights along the way.
Whether you’re an experienced stargazer or looking through a telescope for the very first time, S’mores & Scopes is all about slowing down, enjoying the outdoors, and experiencing the wonder of the night sky together.
Bring your curiosity, your sense of adventure, and your sweet tooth. The universe—and the s’mores—are waiting!
All ages welcome. Telescope viewing is weather permitting.
Bring a flashlight with a red light setting (no white light allowed). Red light flashlights will also be available for purchase.
You MUST have a ticket to attend this event. Attendance is limited. Please note that tickets are non-refundable and cannot be used for future events.
RFO is operated by the Valley of the Moon Observatory Association, a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization, and all of the proceeds will go towards maintaining this beloved Sonoma county institution.
The Valley of the Moon Observatory Association (VMOA) is volunteer amateur and professional astronomers plus a small supporting staff organized as a nonprofit association to provide educational programs about science and astronomy for students, the public, and in support of educators.
The VMOA is responsible for the construction, maintenance and utilization of the Robert Ferguson Observatory and functions as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under the auspices of the California State Parks System, and in cooperation with our local state parks.
