Description

Sammy Volkov

Imagine if Roy Orbison and Townes Van Zandt co-wrote a song - weird - but it works. Sammy’s ‘Be Alright!’ was the first album to debut at #1 on CKUA’s Top 30 Chart. Within a month, it reached #38 on CKUA’s Top 200 Album Chart for 2022 and #19 on Earshot’s National Top 50 Chart. He has toured across Canada and performed at the Edmonton, Canmore, & Calgary Folk Festivals. He just wrapped up recordings for his second solo album and in May he will release the collaborative country album “The Day Had To Come” which he wrote and recorded with singer-songwriter Dana Wylie.

Featuring:
Zack Elliott:
Raised in Bolton, Ontario, Zack Elliott is a contemporary folk singer-songwriter who blends personal expression with introspective inquiry. Zack's guitar compositions married with his melodic and lyrical choices leave audiences comforted, curious, and feeling like they are less alone.

Amanda Penner:
Amanda Penner is a queer Edmonton Folk singer/songwriter. An observer of people and nature, their music communicates wonder, fear, hope, and a genuine interest in the tender beauty of humanity. Coping through creation, Penner delivers a familiar lyricism, similar to artists like Gregory Alan Isakov and Brandi Carlile. With each listen, Penner delivers complexity, wit, and wisdom far beyond their years.

Penner’s single, “She’s a Forest Fire” (2023), is a smooth and string-based invitation to honour the earth-given, complex parts of us as the forces of nature we are.  Penner’s words float over the familiar, safe-feeling acoustics of a gentle folk song but speak with a fierce introspection that resounds one final truth. “We are wild and soft, we are waxing and waning, we are ever-changing and oh-so beautiful for all of it,” says Penner.
